Jensen_Type Designer

I decided to try and find a type designer from Denmark to write about since I am Danish and have thought about moving to Denmark after college to go to graduate school or try and intern at one of the graphic design companies that either of my cousins work for (one works for e-types and the other works for DDB in copenhagen)

I chose to write about a type designer named Henrik Kubel who designed the following typeface called A2 Ergonomics.

Henrik Kubel was born in Copenhagen, Denmark in 1972. He began making his first typefaces while studying. He studied at Denmark's Design School, graduating in 1997 and then got a degree in Communication Art & Design at the Royal College of Art in 2000. It was the discovery of Fontographer that sparked his passion for type design. "At the time there were no schools that were teaching type design." After school, he taught typography and design from 2000-2005 at Buckinghamshire Chilterns University and at Denmark's Design School in 2006 and later at Kingston University. What he is most known for is his work done with his partner Scott Williams in 2000 where he worked on a project called A2/SW/HK creating the above type family along with a few others. Their typeface A2-Type came out in 2010. He primarily worked for private clients, creating a new typeface for every client he worked with. He believed that doing so, allowed for a custom-made type which would fit with the content and the context of their clients project. An example of one of his unique fonts created for a book cover is 'Zadie' which is another one of his typefaces that I really like. 

In 2010, Kubel was awarded the prestigious three year artist and designer working grant from The Danish Art Foundation. Kubel was also a guest speaker at the Royal College of Art in London. Some of the other typefaces created by Henrik Kubel are:

My favorite font of Henrik's is A2 Zadie used on the book cover "On Beauty" if I were to create a typefont of my own, I would imagine it would be inspired by something like A2 Zadie.
