Typography Anatomy - Carreon

Present LT Std

This font is a script serif font designed by Friedrich Karl Sallwey in 1974. The font has unclosed bowls on the capital O and Q and a detached descender on the Q. the font offers some elaboration on capital letters Z and J. Serifs are small and short and the font has a left-angled stress. This font reminds me of Aladdin although its not the same font used for Aladdin; perhaps because the font reminds me of similar strokes to the Arabic characters with its script like strokes.

Rennie Mackintosh ITC – light

This font is a sans serif font Based on the handwriting and drawings of Charles Rennie Mackintosh, a Scottish artist, designer, and architect. Designer of this font is Phill Grimshaw in 1996. This font resembles electro artist Yelle, it is the font used for the cover and theme of her “Safari Disco” album (picture below). This font has quite a unique style to it, its characters are formed in the uppercase letterform in both capital letters and lowercase. The capital case letters have elaboration on the M and O letters. The A and H have a double crossbar in the capitals and a triple crossbar for lowercase letters. The Q’s and O’s are quite interesting comparing between the capital and lowercase letters. While the uppercase Q has a large bowl the lowercase q has a small bowl, both however have the descender of the q extend from the center of the bowl however in the lowercase q the “descender” reaches only slightly above the baseline – in the uppercase Q that descender reaches the beard line. I thought the symbols were interesting to observe, especially the 8, ampersand, and at (@) sign. The 8 resembles the anatomy of a lowercase g in other typesets. The @ sign is in fact spelled out AT, the ampersand & clearly depicts what the book explains to be the French word “et” meaning “and”.
