Rachael Anderson_Chpt 2,4,5

Chapter 2

Chapter two is mainly focused on the anatomy of typography. It goes through all of the vocabulary for each part of every letter. I was unaware of how many different parts there were to type and how detailed type really is. This chapter also discusses different serifs, weights, widths, posture, contrasts, heights, and stress. Again, I had no idea how much detail goes into creating type.

Chapter 4

Chapter four is about legibility. This chapter is important because it is talking about how important it is to have those distinguishing characteristics in order for the reader to depict each letter individually to make words. It talks about the importance of spacing and type size, and how these can guide the reader in different directions. It also talks about what colors work best when using type on a colored background. I thought this was an interesting chapter because there are so many ways to write your words out, but there are many details to take into consideration in order for your words to be legible.

Chapter 5

Chapter five talks about the use of the grid, and how this can really perfect the layout of your design. Using the grid helps keep things organized, which in the end really helps the reader understand what you are trying to accomplish, and helps guides the readers eyes to where you want them to go. This chapter gives different examples for grids and how they can be incorporated with text and also pictures.
