4/5 Reflections - Carey

Chapter 4

This chapter focused on three main elements of legibility which are contrast, simplicity, and proportion. When all three of these elements are used correctly, the typeface will allow the reader to peruse the text with ease. The spacing of each letter, word, paragraph, etc. is also highly valuable when it comes to legibility. It is important to keep in mind the fluidity of the piece when choosing a typeface because that will determine the readers understanding of the piece.

Chapter 5

Chapter 5 focused on the layout of text and the use of grids. When presenting type, grids are often used to create mathematical precision of the design. Without this kind of formula, layouts tend to look off-kilter and wonky. The use of grids creates flow and ease.
